Standing in 1808 as military equipment workshop in Surabaya with the name of Artillerie Constructie Winkel (ACW), the workshop developed into a factory and after changing the name of the manager and then moved its location to Bandung in 1923.
Dutch government in 1950 gave the plant to the Government of Indonesia, then the plant is given the name Arms and Munitions Factory (PSM) located at the PT. PINDAD today.
Since then PT. PINDAD turned into an industrial tool of military equipment which is managed by the Army. PT. PINDAD changed the status of a State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) under the name PT. PINDAD (Persero) in tanggak 29 April 1983, then in 1989 the company under the guidance of Strategic Industries Management Agency (BPIS) in 1999 which later changed to PT. Pakarya Industry (Persero) and then changed again its name to PT. Bahana Pakarya Strategic Industry (Persero).
Year 2002 PT. BPIS (Persero) was dissolved by the Government, and since then PT. PINDAD switch status to PT. PINDAD (Persero) is directly under the Ministry of SOEs coaching.
